Harriman may have surplused a fire truck, but it isn’t going far and may still benefit the city today.

Harriman City Council approved a proposal from Roane County to purchase fire engine three after the city voted to surplus it rather than pay for costly repairs.

“Roane County EMA is here whenever we call. They come on scene with us. They are here fighting fires with us, whatever we need. So that engine will still be used a lot inside our city,” said Mayor Wayne Best.

He said he thought it was great to give it to another agency in the county.

Roane County Office of Emergency Services offered $15,000 for the vehicle to be used at one of the county stations.

City manager Kevin Helms said since it is selling to another government agency they do not have to do an auction type sale.
