Harriman summer reading program starts June 15

“One World, Many Stories” is the theme of Harriman Public Library’s 2011 summer reading program.

“We will have a lot of fun this summer with many entertaining programs,” promised Tammie Edwards, children’s librarian.

The event kicks off June 15 with registration, stories, crafts and fun. Grades K-2 will register from 11 a.m. to noon; registration for children in grades 3 and older will be from 1 to 2 p.m.

Activities for this year’s program include:

June 22 — Magician Ron Mayhew, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

June 29 — Fun With Chemistry with Al Hazari of the University of Tennessee, 1 to 2 p.m.

July 13 — Tennessee Valley Fair’s Jasper the Rooster, stories and dance, 11 a.m. to noon for grades K-2; Clinch River Raptor Center Birds of Prey, 1 to 2 p.m. for grades 3 and older.

July 20 — Magnetism by the American Museum of Science and Energy, 11 a.m. to noon for grades K-2; Skins and Skulls by the American Museum of Science and Energy, 1 to 2 p.m. for grades 3 and older.

July 27 — Susie Randle’s Quackers puppet show, 11 a.m. to noon for grades K-2; Space with Gary Lynn, 1 to 2 p.m. for grades 3 and older.

A celebration with awards and certificates will also take place the final day of the program.
