Johnny Harrison is building a versatile coaching resume at Sunbright.
He took over the Tiger football program last summer and less than a year later he finds himself coaching the baseball team after the recent resignation of Terry Clark, who finished 1-3.
Harrison believes he has some good talent to work with on the diamond.
“We have a lot of talented young men. A lot of them played football for me and I knew athletically what we had with them. They are really good and fundamentally sound,” said Harrison.
“These are good kids. I have had most of them in football, so they know me and they know what to expect from me. They know the discipline part of it. If they come in and practice hard we will do well.”
Harrison is assisted by former Sunbright baseball standout Derek Hawn.
“He (Derek Hawn) has been great. He is a good coach and fine young man. It has been very motivational I think the players have took to him very well,” said Harrison.
Harrison’s goals are simple—play their best at tournament time and keep practicing to get better.
“We want to do well in the district tournament. We’re kind of behind the eight ball now. We just want to get better each week and practice as much as we can. They are showing up hitting the ball and we have to work on some of the basics,” said Harrison.
“They have been committed. We have 17 or 18 kids out right now which is wonderful. and very few of them are missing practice now.”
