Mid-East Community Action Agency is accepting applications to enroll children in Head Start.
Head Start is a federal early childhood program that promotes school readiness from ages birth to 5 in low-income families by enhancing cognitive, social and emotional development.
It provides a learning environment that supports children’s growth in language and literacy, cognition and general knowledge, physical development and health, social and emotional development and approaches to learning.
Head Start also serves pregnant women and their families whose incomes are below federal poverty level.
Programs may be based in either centers or schools that children attend for part-day services, or the children’s own homes, where a staff member visits once a week to provide services to the child and fam-
ily.
Children and families who receive home-based services gather periodically with other enrolled families for a group learning experience facilitated by Head Start staff.
