Community’s ideas sought for Roane Medical’s time capsule

Roane Medical Center continues to seek community input regarding items that should be included in the time capsule that will be installed in the new medical center in Midtown.

“We really want to make sure we include items that capture the history of Roane Medical Center, as well as the history of health care in our community,” said Gaye Jolly, president and chief administrative officer of the Harriman-based Roane Medical Center.

“Our health care certainly is changing, so we want to make sure future generations will have some unique historical items that are symbolic of the past and present of health care,” she added. “We are asking that our community helps us make sure we are putting the right items in the time capsule.”

Suggestions can be made by “liking” Roane Medical Center on Facebook and posting on the hospital page.

The time capsule was first revealed at the May 2 celebration event for the construction of the new hospital, where President and Chief Executive Officer Tony Spezia contributed Covenant Health’s annual report.

The Covenant Health annual report highlights all of the health system’s hospitals, features the progress on Roane Medical Center and Covenant Health’s not-for-profit mission to improve the health and lives of all they serve.

Other contributions into the time capsule included an example of a paper medical record, a history book of Roane Medical Center and a book given by a Roane County student.

The time capsule will be sealed February 2013.

The new Roane Medical Center facilities are under construction on Roane State Hwy. in Midtown near Pinnacle Point, a commercial shopping center just off the Harriman/ Midtown exit of Interstate 40.

A key feature of the hospital includes all private rooms.

The planned hospital design will enhance staff-patient interactions within each unit. It also will provide enlarged and modern nursing units, technologically-advanced surgery suites and progressive medical imaging and cardiac care services.
