Monday night was a good night for the Harriman Middle School Blue Devils and Lady Devils as both teams picked up victories over Midway.
Harriman’s girls took the floor first and rolled to a 31-9 victory. The second game of the evening was closer, but Harriman still picked up a comfortable 32-17 victory.
The first and fourth quarters were close, but the middle periods belonged to the Lady Devils as they outscored the Lady Waves 25-4 in the middle stanzas.
The first period featured very little offense as the score was tied 2-2 after six minutes of play. Harriman, however, pitched a 14-0 shutout in the second period to take a 16-2 lead at halftime.
Jada Johnson led Harriman’s second quarter charge with six points.
Harriman pretty much put the game away in the third period. The Lady Devils outscored Midway 11-4 in the frame to make the score 27-6 after three periods of play.
The final period was like the first as neither team did much offensively, but it didn’t matter as Harriman cruised to the 22-point victory.
Johnson (8 points) and Katie Hall (6 points) led Harriman on the night while Caitlyn Ross scored four for the Lady Waves.
Midway (9) Bosnak 2, Ross 4, Clark 2, McFee 1.
Harriman (31) M. Crass 4, Goldston 2, Hall 6, R. Crass 4, Pack 2, Kring 5, Johnson 8.
Allen Hickman’s first year as head coach is off to a great start as his Blue Devils ran their season mark to 5-0 with a 32-17 victory over the Green Wave.
Harriman’s defense was the story Monday as the Blue Devils held Midway to under 10 points in all four periods of play.
The defense was evident early on as the Green Wave scored just three points in the first period and two more in the second. Harriman, on the other hand, scored eight points in the first quarter and 10 in the second to take an 18-13 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The one-two punch of John Johnson (8 points) and Isaiah McClain (7 points) combined for 15 of Harriman’s 18 points in the first half.
Midway did make things interesting in the third period. The Green Wave won the frame 8-4 to pull within 22-13 with six minutes left to play.
Midway, however, couldn’t complete the comeback as Harriman’s defense allowed just four points in the final period, allowing the Blue Devils to pull away for the 15-point victory.
McClain led Harriman on the night with 11 points while Johnson added 10.
Landon Davidson scored six points to lead the way for Midway.
