Fans of high school basketball wishing to see a lot of games this week need to go no farther than Harriman High School, Midway High School or Rockwood Middle School as all three schools will be holding holiday basketball action.

All three tournaments begin on Thursday  and will feature seven of Roane County’s 10 boys and girls high school teams in action along with eight middle school teams playing.

Four of the county’s high school teams, Rockwood and Harriman, will be in Harriman playing in the 2012 Jim Cordell Christmas Classic.

The 2012 Jim Cordell Christmas Classic will see each team playing a set schedule beginning on Thursday at 11 a.m. There will be seven games Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Rockwood’s boys and girls along with Harriman’s boys and girls will play all three days.

Midway High School will be the site of 24 games beginning on Thursday as the Green Wave and Lady Waves, along with Oliver Springs’ boys will be playing in the 2012 Jon Loden Holiday Classic.

Unlike the 2012 Harriman Christmas Classic, the 2012 Jon Loden Holiday Classic will feature a true tournament format with eight boys teams and eight girls teams playing once a day for a total of 24 games in three days.

The action begins every day at Midway at 10 a.m. and isn’t expected to end for at least 12 hours each day.

First round games involving Roane County teams will see Oliver Springs’ boys taking on Portland Thursday at 2:30 p.m. followed by the Midway Lady Waves and Jellico at 7 p.m., and the final game of the evening will see Midway’s boys hosting Jellico at 8:30 p.m.

The girls championship game is set for 7 p.m. Saturday and the boys title game is set to tip off at 8:30 p.m.

The newest Christmas tournament takes place at Rockwood Middle School as the Tigers and Lady Tigers will be hosting a tournament for middle school teams.

Rockwood’s tournament is a double elimination format featuring eight teams with Oliver Springs, Midway, Harriman and Rockwood representing Roane County.

Eight games will be played on Thursday and Friday while Saturday will see as many as 10 games being played at Rockwood.

Kingston’s high school boys and girls will also be busy this week as they will be playing in a Christmas tournament at Knoxville Catholic High School on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Cherokee Middle School and the Oliver Springs High School girls are off this week.
