Hospice volunteers sought for Roane area

-A A +A

Amedisys Hospice is in need of volunteers to serve in the Roane County area.

A volunteer is a special part of the hospice team. Volunteers are those who wish to make a difference in the lives of the terminally ill or those who are grieving by giving time to assist a patient or family member.

Three volunteer opportunities are available with Amedysis Hospice. Direct-care volunteers offer companionship, support at the time of death, read or write letters with the patient, do craft projects with the patient and/or caregiver, feed the patient and pet therapy.

Indirect volunteers can assist with tasks such as light gardening, blanket delivery, attending health fairs and assisting at nursing facilities.

Bereavement volunteers assist with letters, spiritual prayer calls, attend funerals, participate in memorial services, and offer companionship to the bereaved.

On average, hospice volunteers give four to eight hours per month.

New hospice volunteers participate in a free training program that provides information regarding the hospice philosophy of care, volunteer roles, communication skills, psychosocial and spiritual aspects of death and the interdisciplinary approach to hospice care.
