Imagination Library recipient of literacy grant

-A A +A

Roane Imagination Library is the recipient of “A Tribute to Literacy” grant from Altrusa International of Oak Ridge and the Oak Ridge Breakfast Rotary Club.

Roane Imagination Library will use the grant to send free books to more than 1,800 Roane County children ages newborn to 5 years old.

Organizations throughout Roane and Anderson counties with programs, projects or activities fostering literacy in the area were invited to apply for the grant.

“This year’s selection was especially competitive,” said Janet Swift, co-chairwoman of the selection committee.

“The selection committee had grant requests valued at almost three times the amount of funding available.”

Each March, the two clubs host a “Lunch for Literacy” event to support the grant program.

Carol V. Aebersold, co-author of “Elf On the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition,” will be the guest speaker for the event, which starts at 11:30 a.m. March 12 in the Oak Ridge High School cafeteria.

Tickets are $40 and are available at Expressions, The Ferrell Shop and Mr. K’s Used Books and CDs.
