Friday night’s encounter with the Oneida Indians left the Oliver Springs Bobcats shell-shocked as the Indians doled out a 28-0 triumph over the Bobcats.
After holding strong in the first quarter, the Indians drew first blood in the second quarter on a four-play, 36-yard march into the end zone capped off by a Houston West 10-yard touchdown run.
The PAT was good to make the score 7-0 with 7:27 left in the half.
Oneida struck again on a methodical 10-play, 80-yard journey into the end zone, with the decisive play being a four-yard Cole West touchdown run.
The PAT was good to make the score 14-0 with 38.5 seconds left in the first half.
If there had been any hope of an upset, it was snuffed out early in the second half when the Indians used a 25-yard Houston West touchdown and the following PAT to make the score 21-0 with 7:14 left in the third quarter.
The Indians added the proverbial salt in the open wounds of the Bobcats on a two-play, 40-yard drive to stick a spear into the hearts of the Bobcat faithful when Houston West scored from 32 yards out.
The PAT was good to make the score 28-0 with 10:24 left in the final quarter.
The Bobcats were led on offense by the rushing of freshman Derek Tinker (4- 44) and on defense by Eddie Stevenson (8 tackles) and Tinker (5 tackles).
Next week, the ‘Cats play Sunbright in hopes of keeping their playoff aspirations alive.
The Bobcats enter that game with a 2-5 record and must win at least two of their final three games to have a shot at postseason play.
Oneida (6-1) hosts Coalfield (7-0) Friday night in a game that will determing the regular season District 4-A champion.
