The June 18 State Election Commission meeting in Nashville included an agenda item about Roane County Election Commissioner Jim Ryans.
The issue concerned Ryans serving as both a Roane County election commissioner and member of the county Board of Public Utilities.
“The commission decided to seek an AG’s (attorney general’s) opinion as to whether it was legal for someone to serve on both the election commission and the utilities board,” said Blake Fontenay, a state spokesman.
