The Cherokee Yellow Jackets and Lady Jackets played their final game before Christmas Tuesday by splitting a pair of games with North.

The first game of the evening was full of drama as the Lady Jackets picked up a 41-40 victory in overtime. The nightcap game featured little drama as the Stars cruised to a 43-26 victory.

Girls Game

Forget about the PBS show "Downtown Abbey", Cherokee has "Downtown Abby", as Abby Wilson’s 13 points helped the Lady Jackets rally from a 12-point deficit at one point in the third period to get a 31-30 overtime win over the Lady Stars.

North started the game on an 8-0 run before Cherokee cut the lead down to 8-4 at the end of the first period. The Lady Stars then soared to a 14-6 halftime lead.

That lead got as big as 22-10 in the third, but those Lady Jackets came swarming back into contention on the strength of a 10-0 tilt to close out period number three to pull to within 22-20.

Cherokee managed to tie the game at 28-28 at the end of regulation on the strength of Rachael Baggett hitting two free-throws with 11.1 seconds left in regulation.

In overtime, Cherokee scored three points to eke out the 31-30 win.

Abby Wilson (13 points, 6 boards), Kaylee Wilson (8 points), and Baggett (6 points, 7 boards) led the way for Cherokee on the evening.

Cherokee (31) A. Wilson 13, K. Wilson 8, Baggett 6, Nunley 4.
