The Kingston Yellow Jackets and Lady Jackets split their tennis matches with Loudon at Roane State on Thursday.
Both squads entered the day with 2-2 records. Kingston’s boys ran their mark to 3-2 with a 9-0 victory over Loudon, but the Lady Jackets fell to 2-3 after dropping a narrow 5-4 decision.
Thursday’s results are a little misleading as Loudon has only two players and that led to just three matches being played.
Kingston won those matches as Brandon Griffis and Quint Gasque teamed up for an 8-2 victory over Dylan Shanks and Steven Davis in doubles.
Griffis and Gasque also won in singles. Griffis defeated Shanks, 8-2, while Gasque won by the same score against Davis.
Chris Merryman, Timothy Smith, Grant Ladd and Colby Robinson won matches for Kingston via forfeit.
The girls match was a lot more dramatic as Loudon picked up a 5-4 victory.
In singles, Kingston won two of the six matches played. Lauren Nellis picked up one of those win with an 8-6 victory Ashlee Wright. Amanda Leachman was also victorious as she beat Kayla Brown, 8-4.
The same four players teamed up in doubles, but with differing results as Wright and Brown defeated Nellis and Leachman, 8-6.
The remaining four matches in singles all went to Loudon. Logan Veal beat Gabrielle Miller, 8-4, Morgan Cox defeated Erin Theodeau, 8-5, Hannah Reese knocked off Presley Dowker, 8-4, and Kaila Tullock beat Tiffany Rich, 8-2.
Kingston won the remaining two matches in doubles and Miller and Rich defeated Veal and Cox, 8-3, while the duo of Theodeau and Dowker beat Bailey Lawhorn and Courtney Wombles, 8-1.
