After waiting almost two weeks to open their season, the Kingston Yellow Jacket and Lady Jacket tennis teams took on Rockwood Friday for their second match in two days.

Kingston opened the season by sweeping Harriman on Thursday and they followed that up with a sweep against Rockwood on Friday at Roane State.

Kingston took the girls contest, 6-3, and they picked up an 8-1 victory in boys play.

Boys

The Yellow Jackets had their way for much of the evening as they won six of the seven matches played, and they won two other matches via forfeit.

In singles, Kingston won the No. 1 match with Brandon Griffis knocking off Ryan Hamby, 8-1. Rockwood rebounded in the No. 2 match as Arin Deardorff beat Quint Gasque, 8-6, in the closest boys match of the day.

Those four also teamed up in doubles with Griffis and Gasque picking up an 8-2 victory.

The remaining three matches in singles would see Kingston prevailing with Chris Merryman beating Dalton Kirkland, 8-4; Timothy Smith defeating Tyler Wicks, 8-0; and Grant Ladd downing R.J. Morlock, 8-5.

Kingston’s Colby Robinson won the sixth match with a forfeit.

In doubles, Merryman and Smith combined to defeat Kirkland and Morlock, 8-0, while Ladd and Robinson picked up a forfeit victory.

Girls

Kingston won in girls, 6-3, but the Lady Tigers were close to a 5-4 victory as two of the matches went to tiebreakers.

One of those matches came as Gabrielle Miller defeated Kristen Jolley 9-7 in a tiebreaker after the duo were tied at 8-8. Kingston’s Pressley Dowker also won a 7-4 tiebreaker over Rockwood’s Raven Latham.

The other four matches in singles would see Rockwood coming away with three victories.

Rockwood’s wins came with Alex Patterson beating Lauren Nellis, 8-6; Blayke Kelley downing Tyler Kidd, 8-0; and Allison Frogg beating Erin Theodeau, 8-5.

Kingston’s win came with Amanda Leachman beating Shelley Edwards, 8-4.

The singles matches were split 3-3, but Kingston won all three matches in doubles.

Nellis and Leachman beat Patterson and Kelley, 8-0; Miller and Tiffany Rich defeated Edwards and Frogg, 8-3; while Theodeau and Dowker defeated Jolly and Allison Holloway, 8-6.
