Jackets sweep Tigers in tennis

With the regular season coming to a close, the Kingston Yellow Jackets and Lady Jackets tennis teams swept Rockwood on Thursday.

Kingston won all nine games in boys play while picking up a 7-2 victory in girls action.

The Tigers and Jackets will both be in action on Monday in the opening round of the district tournament at Stone Memorial.


Kingston won all nine matches with the best match being the No. 2 singles match. In that match, Kingston’s Tim Smith needed a tiebreaker in knocking off Rockwood’s Aaron Deardorff.

In other single matches, Brandon Griffis defeated Ryan Hamby, 8-0, Chris Merryman defeated Dalton Kirkland, 8-3, Grant Ladd beat Carson McCullogh, 8-1, while Colby Robinson beat R.J. Morlock, 8-1.

Hunter Parsons won a match with a forfeit.

In doubles, Griffis and Smith defeated Hamby and Deardorff, 8-3, while Merryman and Ladd beat Kirkland and McCullough, 8-2.

Parsons and Robinson won with a forfeit.


The girls’ contests were closer as Kingston won four of six in singles and all three matches in doubles.

In singles, Kingston’s wins came with Lauren Nellis beating Shelly Edwards, 8-3, Amanda Leachman beating, Zoe Hill, 8-3, Erin Theodeau beating Raven Lalhorn, 8-6, and Tyler Kidd knocking off Kimberly Hendrix, 8-3.

Rockwood’s victories came with Blayke Kelly beating Gabrielle Miller, 8-5, and Allison Frogg beating Presley Dowker, 8-4.

In doubles, Nellis and Leachman teamed up to beat Edwards and Frogg, 8-0 while Dowker and Theodeau beat Jessie Shadden and Allyson Holloway, 8-4. 

 The best match of the day would see Miller and Tiffany Ritchie beating Hill and Kelly, 9-7.
