The Kingston Yellow Jackets and Lady Jackets were hoping to make a statement in District 4-AA Tuesday night on the road at Alcoa, but the home team had a different plan as the Tornadoes and Lady Tornadoes swept Kingston.

Kingston’s girls took the floor first and played well enough to win for three quarters, but a bad third quarter was the difference in Alcoa picking up a 51-45 victory.

The boys game wasn’t as close as Alcoa cruised to a 65-45 victory.

Girls Game

Kingston trailed just 21-19, but the Lady Jackets were outscored 18-4 in the third period and that proved to be the difference, as the Lady Jackets couldn’t dig out of the fourth quarter deficit entering the fourth quarter.

Kingston’s bigs, Haley Cornellison and Sydney Nunley, carried the load in the first half as the duo combined for 18 of the Lady Jackets’ 19 points in the first two periods of play.

Alcoa, however, yielded just two points to the duo in the third period as their two-point lead at the half ballooned to 16, 39-23, entering the fourth quarter.

Kingston’s Harli-Blaine Oran led a furious Lady Jacket rally in the fourth quarter. Oran buried two three-pointers and scored 14 points in the frame, but it wasn’t enough as Alcoa hung on for the 51-45 victory.

Oran led Kingston on the night with 15 points while Nunley (12 points) and Cornellison (10 points) also scored in double figures.

Katie Stubblefield (15 points) and Kayla Newman (11 points) led the way for Oneida.

Kingston (45) Mossing 6, Oran 15, Baggett 2, Cornellison 10, Nunley 12.

Boys Game

The Jackets played well early, leading 12-10 after one period of play, but Alcoa outscored the Tornadoes in each of the last three quarters to pick up the 22-point victory.

Alcoa’s biggest quarter came in the second when they outscored the Jackets 21-12. The Tornadoes added eight points to their lead in the third period and three more in the fourth.

Jordan Huddleston led Kingston on the night with 12 points while Brandon Griffis added 11.

 Kingston (45) Gasque 8, Sterling 2, Huddleston 12, Griffis 11, Anderson 2, Colquitt 4, Golliher 6.
