Jackets top Blue Devils

The Kingston Yellow Jacket tennis teams swept the Harriman Blue Devils and Lady Thursday at Roane State.

Kingston’s boys won 7-2 while the Lady Jackets took an 8-1 victory.


The No. 1 and 2 matches were both close with Kingston coming out on top in both.

In the No. 1 match, Lauren Nellis defeated Jill Goldston, 8-5. The No. 2 match ended in the same score with Amanda Leachman knocking off Kristen Arden. They teamed up in doubles with Nellis and Leachman picking up an 8-4 victory.

Kingston’s other three wins in singles came with Gabrielle Miller beating Amanda Frost, Erin Theodeau beating Haley Moore, and Pressley Dowker defeating Addie Martin. Harriman’s Leketta Asbery beat Tyler Kidd.

In the remaining doubles matches, Kingston’s Miller and Kidd beat Asbery and Martin, while Theodeau and Dowker knocked off Frost and Moore.


In singles, Kingston’s Brandon Griffis and Chris Merryman along with Harriman’s Tre Pack had impressive victories. Griffis defeated Harriman’s Chase Goldston, 8-0, and that was the same score of Pack downing Grant Ladd. Merryman was an 8-1 victor over Matt Snow.

In the remaining matches, Kingston’s Quint Gasque beat Devin Franklin, Timothy Smith downed Bubba Pressley, and Colby Robinson knocked off Henry Thorn.

Action in doubles was similar with Griffis and Gasque picking up a victory over Franklin and Farmer while Merryman and Smith knocked off Snow and Pressley.

 Harriman’s win came with Goldston and Thorn beating Ladd and Robinson.
