James Ellis Hamilton, 72, of Machesney Park, Ill., passed away Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010, from complications of emphysema.
Born Aug. 17, 1938, in Kingston, he was the son of Ellis and Loney Blizzard Hamilton. A U.S. Army veteran, he served in Germany, where he married Johanna Ultsch on July 14, 1958. He was employed by Ironworkers Local 498 for more than 30 years, retiring in 2000. A member of Cherry Valley Masonic Lodge 173, he was a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan. A loving son, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he touched the lives of many people and maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother-in-law, LeRoy Franklin
Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Ron and Elaine, Poplar Grove, Ill., Don and Jody, Rockton, Ill., and Tony, San Antonio; five grandchildren, James, Michael, Kaitlyn, Andrew and Christopher; a stepdaughter, Jessica Travis, Thornton, Colo.; a stepson, Josh Travis, Nashville; a stepgrandson, Austin Fosse; husband for more than 20 years to Pam Travis, Thornton; a great-granddaughter, Kamryn Hamilton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Becky, Pascagoula, Miss., and Jack and Sue, Kingston; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Frances and Patsy and Sonny, all of Sparta; several nieces and nephews; countless other friends and family.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, in Union Baptist Church, Kingston. Delehanty Funeral Home Ltd., Loves Park, Ill., is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shriners Hospital.
