Join Wanderers for walk along Kingston’s Watts Bar Lake

-A A +A

The East Tennessee Wanderers walking club is planning a 3-mile fun walk May 4 along the Betty Brown Memorial Walking Trail by Watts Bar Lake in Kingston.

Area residents are welcome to participate.

Walkers will sign in at 10  a.m. at the 58 Landing parking lot on Hwy. 58. Lunch at an area restaurant will follow the walk.

The Wanderers is a volkswalking club that promotes fun, fitness and friendship by providing people of average athletic ability opportunities for leisurely, non-competitive walks in scenic and historic areas.

The group is affiliated with the American Volkssport Association, which has more than 300 clubs active in the United States.

Members have the option of tracking their events and distance through the AVA system, but individuals can always participate in club events even if they don't track through the AVA.

The Wanderers have two events per month; some are AVA-sanctioned, others are simply for fun.

AVA-sanctioned walks are generally 10 km (6.2 miles) in length, with a 5 km (3.1 miles) option usually offered for those who are unable to complete the longer walks.

The Wanderers are always on the lookout for interesting places to walk and new people to join them.

Call Jerrie Mitchell at 291-8149.

Information is also available on the group’s websites, www.easttennesseewanderers.org, and on the AVA site, www.ava.org.
