Darla Jones, nursing supervisor of the Nursing Administration Department at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge (MMC), has been named the 2013 MMCer of the Year.
Hospital employees cast their votes for MMCer of the Year among candidates who received MMCer of the Month during the year.
Jones, who lives in Kingston, was December MMCer of the Month and received the greatest number of votes to earn this special distinction.
As a nursing supervisor, Jones provides support to the nursing staff at Methodist Medical Center, orients new nurses and offers help to experienced staff.
“I try each day to work with the staff to help them,” Jones said. “Very rarely do I have to be the boss. I have great people here at Methodist to work with. We all work toward our common goal. I try to always treat people as I would want to be treated.”
Jones has been with Methodist Medical Center and Covenant Health since 1997 and previously worked in the acute care unit and with the company’s former Cariten services.
Jones is noted for offering a wealth of information and is considered a prime resource within the hospital, an MMC release said. She has oriented three new nursing supervisors — almost simultaneously — and she interviews, hires and schedules orientation for the flex pool staff and serves as their manager.
“Her leadership brings a level of calmness to what could be an extremely hectic day,” said Methodist Medical Center vice president and chief nursing officer.
She describes Jones as energetic, always pleasant and a joy to work with.
Jones and her husband, Lynn, have two sons: Brent, a member of the U.S. Air Force; and Corbin, a student at Roane State Community College.
Jones is a member of Emory Heights Missionary Baptist Church.
She enjoys reading, working with her husband to manage the cattle on their farm, and traveling around the country to visit family.
