Tuesday is the last day to register to vote for the Aug. 7 election. Contested races include sheriff, county executive, circuit court clerk and 9th Judicial District circuit court judge.

Roane County Administrator of Elections Charles Holiway said people can register at the election commission office until 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The office is on the first floor of the courthouse in Kingston.

“We’ve had sort of an increase here at the end of people trying to get registered,” Holiway said.

Holiway said voter applications sent through the mail have to be postmarked by July 8.

All 15 county commission seats will be on the ballot.

The county has seven commission districts.

All the commission races are contested, except for District 3, District 4 and District 7.

The election also serves as the Republican Primary. Weston Wamp is challenging incumbent Congressman Chuck Fleischmann in the 3rd Congressional District, which includes Roane County.

Jim Cobb faces incumbent Ron Travis in State House District 31, which includes part of Rockwood and surrounding areas.

The race is a reversal from 2012, when Cobb was the incumbent and Travis was the challenger.

Fleischmann defeated Wamp and two other challengers in the 2012 primary.

Early voting runs from July 18 to Aug. 2. Holiway is encouraging people to vote early.
