The Kingston Lady Jackets soccer team let a win slip away in the closing minutes against Loudon, giving up a late goal to wind up with a 2-2 tie on a sweltering Tuesday afternoon in Kingston.

“We did not play well tonight.” Kingston head coach Elik Pickell said after the game. “We’ve got a lot of work to do, and even though we have had starters hurt, that’s still no excuse for tonight. It’s a part of it, but we have got to pick up the effort, especially against CAK, Catholic, and Alcoa in this district. Bottom line is we have got to play a lot better.”

Loudon took the early 1-0 lead in the first half, withstanding notable goal attempts by Kingston’s Kaylee Wilson and Shandi Bullington.

Kingston turned things around for much of the second half, scoring on goals from Kelli Allen and Kaylee Wilson, the first goal of Wilson’s soccer career. Kingston nearly put the nail in the coffin on a Shandi Bullington kick that bounced innocently off the left goalpost.

Victory seemed within grasp until a mental lapse by the Lady Jackets contributed to the Lady Redskins tying the game at 2-2, which is how things ended.

Allen and Wilson scored Kingston’s goals while Tori Strahan more than earned the sobriquet of “Stonewall” Strahan, with 16 saves in the tie as Kingston gave up 21 shots on goal and only attempted 9 shots.

The Lady Jackets played at Clinton Thursday.
