It was a county rivalry at its best Thursday night as the Kingston Yellow Jackets and Lady Jackets used solid defense to sweep Oliver Springs in a pair of non district games at Kingston.

In the girls game, it was the Lady Jackets leading throughout in picking up a 44-41 victory.

The boys game was a bit different as Oliver Springs grabbed an early lead only to see Kingston rally in the second half for a 50-44 victory.

Both teams will be in action again Tuesday as Kingston hosts Alcoa in a key District 4-AA contest while Oliver Springs travels to Fentress County to take on Clarkrange.

Girls Game

In a game that was ill-suited for cardiac patients, the Kingston Lady Jackets held off a furious late rally by the Oliver Springs Lady Bobcats and took a 44-41 win Thursday evening.

Kingston came out like gang busters and had a 14-5 tilt in the first period. Oliver Springs whittled the lead down to 21-13 at the half on the strength of an 8-3 run to close out the second period.

The Lady ‘Cats got within seven points at the end of the third period, trailing 34-27. Kingston then got out to a 12-point lead at one stretch of the final period, but the Lady ‘Cats battled back to get within three points on a 9-0 run, but the potential game-tying shot bounced off the rim, giving the Lady Jackets a 44-41 win.
