Mitchell Kyker, vice president of Kyker Funeral Homes, was one of 50 funeral directors nationwide selected to participate in the National Funeral Directors Association’s Meet the Mentors program.

Meet the Mentors, supported by the Funeral Service Foundation, took place March 18-19 in the Emory Conference Center Hotel on the campus of Emory University in Atlanta.

It brought together young funeral professionals to learn from three of the country’s leading funeral directors and network with like-minded peers.

“We are honored Mitchell was selected to participate in this outstanding program,” said Neil Kyker, president of Kyker Funeral Homes.

During the program, each mentor gave a presentation in which they shared lessons they have learned about how to build a successful and fulfilling career in funeral service.

After the presentations was a panel discussion, followed by small group discussions with each mentor.

Kyker graduated from Harriman High School in 2009. He attended Roane State Community College and graduated from John A. Gupton College in 2011.

He began working for Kyker Funeral Homes in 2008 and became a licensed funeral director in 2011.

Kyker Funeral Homes was founded in 1905 by the late J.S. Kyker. It has been family-owned and -operated for five generations, with offices and chapels in Harriman, Kingston and Sweetwater.
