In a showdown between two softball powerhouse programs, it was the Oliver Springs Lady Bobcats swatting the Coalfield Lady Jackets by a 5-3 margin Monday afternoon at Oliver Springs’ Arrowhead Park.

Coalfield started off the game getting two on base, but were unable to capitalize on the opportunity. The Lady 'Cats then left one base runner stranded on first in the bottom of the first inning to keep the game at a shutout.

Coalfield went three-up and three-down in the top of the second while the Lady 'Cats churned out a two-run double from Emily Griffith to take an early 2-0 lead.

Coalfield got on the board in the top of the third with an RBI triple by Diana Ratcliffe, but the Lady 'Cats, however, responded in kind with a run of their own with a RBI triple from Rachel Griffith to take a 3-1 lead.

Coalfield would go three-up and three-down in the top of the fourth inning while Oliver Springs’ Kaylee Morgan put some oomph into her at-bat for a two-run single to give the Lady 'Cats a 5-1 lead.

Coalfield again could not get a base-runner on in the top of the fifth inning while the 'Cats left runners on first and second.

Coalfield pulled within 5-2 in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice RBI.

The Lady 'Cats could not get anyone home in the bottom of the sixth, and Coalfield was only able to push one run across in the top of inning number seven to get within 5-3.

The Lady 'Cats were led at the plate by the "twinning" combination of Rachel Griffith (2-2, 2 RBIs, 1 2B), Rachel Griffith (2-4, 1 3B, 1 RBI), along with Macy Martin (2-3). Courtney Jones (CG, 5 Ks, 1 BB, 3 Hits, 2 ER) got the win for the Lady 'Cats.

Coalfield was led by Diana Ratcliffe (2-3, 2 3Bs, 1 RBI) while Dakota Sise (CG, 4 Ks, 5 ER) was tallied with the loss.

Oliver Springs took possession of first place in District 4-A with the win. The two teams met again Tuesday at Coalfield.
