Some days are just good days and Tuesday was one of those days for the Oliver Springs Lady Bobcats as they could do no wrong in a 16-0 three-inning victory at Wartburg.
Defensively, the Lady ‘Cats needed little more than pitcher Courtney Jones and catcher CharLee Roberts. Jones fired a three-inning perfect game past the Lady Bulldogs and seven of the nine outs recorded came via strikeouts.
Offensively, the Lady ‘Cats batted just three times, but that was enough time for 16 runs to cross the plate on 13 hits. Kaylee Morgan had the biggest hit of the day for the Lady ‘Cats as she smoked a two-run home run in an 11-run second inning.
Macy Martin also had a productive second inning as she ripped a pair of doubles that brought in a total of five runs. Jones took time out from pitching and had a two-run double in the big second inning while Rachel Griffith had a pair of singles.
Oliver Springs’ 11-run second inning came on the heels of a five-run first inning. In that inning, Martin, Jones, Morgan, Rachel Griffith and Emily Griffith all scored runs with Jones ripping her first of two doubles in the game.
Emily Griffith (2-3, 2 runs), Jones (2-4, 2 2Bs, 3 RBIs, 2 runs), Martin (2-2, 2 2Bs, 5 RBIs, 2 runs) and Rachel Griffith (3-3, 1 RBI, 3 runs) all had multiple hits while Morgan (1-3, 1 HR, 2 RBIs, 3 runs) also had a big day at the plate.
Oliver Springs improved to 18-4 with the win and 9-1 in District 4-A. The Lady ‘Cats are currently tied with Coalfield for second place in the district. Oneida is currently undefeated in district play, but the Lady Indians have yet to play Coalfield or Oliver Springs.
