Gilmore’s hat trick leads OS to victory

By Goose Lindsay

The Oliver Springs Lady Bobcats ran their season record to 2-0 Tuesday evening with a dominating 5-0 victory at Sunbright.

Lady ’Cat junior Jayde Gilmore had a great game for Oliver Springs, as she scored three goals on the night.
Two of Gilmore’s goals came in the first half as Oliver Springs led 2-0 at intermission.
Gilmore’s first goal came unassisted in the 12th minute. Her second goal came in the 38th minute off an assist from Danielle Vanover.
Gilmore nearly recorded a hat trick in the first half as she rocketed a shot off the keeper that deflected off the cross bar earlier in the half.
While the 2-0 lead at halftime was solid, it could have been worse if not for some solid saves from Sunbright’s keeper. The Lady ’Cats had a total of 16 shots in the first half with nine requiring saves by the Lady Tiger keeper.
Sunbright only had three shots on goal in the first half with none beating Lady ’Cat keeper Morgan Meredith.
Oliver Springs didn’t put as many shots on goal in the second half, but they still added three goals to their lead to make the final score 5-0.
Junior Logan Holley scored the first goal of the second half off an assist from junior Tori Lawson during the 15th minute of play. Sophomore Taylor Boswell scored goal number four after stealing possession in the 32nd minute.
Gilmore did get her hat trick in the 38th minute. After coming up with a loose ball, Gilmore made a nice run before putting the ball into the back of the net.
Sunbright only had one solid shot on goal in the second half.
Meredith, a senior, recorded the shutout in goal with four saves.
The Lady ’Cats will look to remain unbeaten Monday evening when they host King’s Academy at D.J. Brittan Field. Oliver Springs will also play at Harriman on Tuesday.
