Lady Cats fall in Hollis Eble title game

Action continued Monday at Oakdale’s Hollis Eble Tournament as four games were played with a Roane County team playing in all four games.

The first two contests were boys games as Rockwood and Oliver Springs both picked up victories as Rockwood downed Winfield, 41-35, while Oliver Springs downed Oakdale, 34-25.

The girls, however, wouldn’t be as lucky as Oakdale defeated Rockwood in the consolation game, 34-19, while Coalfield beat Oliver Springs in he championship game, 20-15.

Boys Games

Rockwood vs. Winfield

Playing their first game of the season with a full squad made all the difference for Bryan Powers’ squad as Rockwood took the lead early and never looked back in picking up the six-point victory.

The Tigers would lead 10-6 after one period and 19-13 at halftime. Rockwood's lead would grow to double figures in the second half, but Winfield did make a run late to pull within 41-35 at the end.

Brendan Kirkland led the Tigers on the night with 23 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals.

Cameron Webster pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds for the Tigers.

Oliver Springs vs. Oakdale

The Bobcats jumped out to a 10-2 lead after six minutes of play and Oakdale never caught up as Oliver Springs left the "Eagles Nest" with a nine-point victory.

While Oliver Springs jumped out to the early lead, Oakdale did make things interesting in the second period as they outscored the Bobcats 13-9 to make the score 19-15 at halftime.

Oliver Springs, however, regrouped in the third period and outscored the Eagles 11-3 in the frame to put the game away.

Logan Crisp led the Bobcats with 13 points and 6 steals while Matthew Box (9 points, 8 steals), Kyle Coker (8 points, 8 rebounds) and John Simms (7 rebounds, 5 steals) also had solid stats.

Jacob Pease led Oakdale with 8 points and 19 rebounds.

Girls Games

Rockwood vs. Oakdale

It was a tale of two halves for the Lady Tigers as they played well in the first half, but not so great in the second half.

The first half would see Rockwood lead 7-6 after one period of play and 15-14 at halftime, but the Lady Tigers must have left their offense in the locker room at halftime.

Rockwood was shutout in the third quarter, 16-0, and managed just four points in the final period as the Lady Eagles cruised to the 15-point victory.

Kellie Mead led Rockwood in defeat with 8 points, 9 rebounds and 5 blocks while teammate Savannah Grant pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.

Marissa Redmon (14 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals, 3 blocks) and Lindsey Kilby (14 points, 5 rebounds, 5 steals) did most of the damage for Oakdale.

Oliver Springs vs. Coalfield

Points were hard to come by in the title game as Coalfield picked up a 20-15 victory over the Lady ‘Cats.

The first quarter would see the teams combine for just five points as Oliver Springs led 3-2 after six minutes of play.

The next two periods, however, would see Coalfield take control of the game. The Lady Jackets outscored Oliver Springs 9-5 in the second period and 8-2 in the third period to take a 19-9 lead into the final period of play.

Oliver Springs did win the final period, 6-1, but it wasn’t enough for the Lady ‘Cats to pick up the victory.

Kat Potter led the Lady ‘Cats with 6 points while Kelsey Christopher and Macy Martin combined for 17 of the team’s 26 rebounds.

Samantha Hamby and Keisha Berry led Coalfield with 6 points each while Andrea Foster and Tiffany Walls combined for 21 rebounds.
