Lady 'Cats, Green Waves pick up easy wins

Tuesday night was a good night for the Oliver Springs Lady Bobcats and Midway Green Waves as both picked up easy victories.

The Lady ‘Cats hit the road and rolled to an easy 58-32 victory over Grace Baptist Academy while Midway’s boys picked up a 76-21 victory over Tennessee School for the Deaf (TSD) in a District 3-A contest.

Both teams will be at home Friday as Oliver Springs hosts Jackson County while Midway entertains Grace Christian Academy.

Oliver Springs vs. Grace Baptist

After struggling at times during the first half of the season, Michelle Christopher’s squad put it all together Tuesday in crushing the Lady Golden Eagles, 58-32.

Oliver Springs put the game away early as they led 19-4 after eight minutes of play. The Lady ‘Cats added five points to their lead in the second period as they took a 33-13 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Any thoughts of a Grace Baptist comeback were put to rest in the third period as Oliver Springs won the frame, 15-9, to take a 48-22 lead into the final period. That final period was played to a 10-10 draw as Oliver Springs cruised home with the 26-point victory.

Eleven players scored for Oliver Springs on the night with Katie Fitch’s 12 points leading the way. All of Fitch’s points came from beyond the three-point arc.

Kelsey Christopher (10 points) also scored in double figures for Oliver Springs.

Grace Baptist’s Kaityln Eldridge led all scorers with 20 points.

Midway vs. TSD

Darrell Ruffner’s Midway Green Waves picked up an even easier win as they rolled to a 55-point, 76-21, victory over TSD.

Midway actually scored enough points in the first period to pick up the victory as the Green Waves led 22-10 after eight minutes of play.

Midway added 10 points to their lead in the second period as they led 36-14 at halftime.

The third period would be when the Green Waves delivered the knockout blow. Midway outscored the Vikings 28-4 in the period to make the score 64-18 after three periods of play.

Midway added nine points to their lead in the final period.

Matt Jarvis led 11 Green Waves in scoring as he knocked down two three-pointers on his way to a game-high 18 points.
