Aloisi's two-hitter with 10 Ks leads Oliver Springs to first win

By Goose Lindsay

Things didn’t go so well Monday when the Oliver Springs Lady Bobcats opened the 2011 season with a loss at Sweetwater.

Wednesday, however, proved to be a much better day for Matt Headden’s squad as the Lady Bobcats avenged that loss with a 2-0 victory over the Lady Wildcats.

Oliver Springs right-handed pitcher Kayla Aloisi was the story on Wednesday. Aloisi went the distance, allowing two hits and no walks while striking out 10 on the day.

While Aloisi pitched a gem, she did have to work out of three jams.

In the top of the second and fourth innings, the Lady Wildcats picked up their lone hits of the game. Oliver Springs also allowed a runner on board in each of those innings thanks to an error, but the Lady ‘Cats would get out of each jam with no runners crossing the plate.

Oliver Springs also committed a pair of errors in the top of the sixth inning that allowed two more Lady Wildcats to reach safely, but again Aloisi and crew would work their way out of the jam.

Aloisi finished off the Lady Wildcats by striking out the side in the seventh inning.

For a while Wednesday, it looked like neither team would score as Oliver Springs went down in order in each of their first three at bats.

The bottom of the fourth inning, however, would see the Lady ‘Cats take the lead for good.

Kayla Crisp got things going for the Lady ‘Cats with a one-out hit then Crisp scored on a two-out double off the bat of Macy Martin.

The Lady Bobcats had a chance to blow the game open in the bottom of the fifth inning. Oliver Springs would send seven hitters to the plate in the frame, but only Aloisi would score as the Lady Bobcats left the bases loaded to end the inning.

Besides Aloisi, Crisp and Cheltzie Sheldon also had hits in the frame for Oliver Springs while Lauren Johnson reached on an error.

The Lady Bobcats also picked up a pair of hits in the bottom of the sixth inning as Shelby Miller and Rachel Snellings each picked up singles. Miller and Snellings would not score, however, as the Lady Bobcats settled for the 2-0 victory.

Crisp led Oliver Springs’ seven-hit attack on the day as she went 1-3 with a run scored.

The Lady Bobcats open District 4-A play Friday when they take on Jellico at Arrowhead Park. Oliver Springs will play two more district games early next week when they play at Oneida on Monday before hosting the Lady Indians on Tuesday.
