There is an old Jerry Reed song that goes "When you're hot, you're hot." And in a much-ballyhooed contest between the Oneida Lady Indians and Oliver Springs Lady Bobcats, the Lady Indians got knocked out like Manny Pacquiao as the Lady 'Cats took a convincing 62-34 win.
The Lady 'Cats set the tone early, protecting their house like Under-Armour. The Lady Indians had a bit of a pow-wow and tied the game at 12-12, but Oliver Springs scored the final five points of the opening period to take a 17-12 lead.
Period number two was all the Lady 'Cats, using a whopping 19-6 swing to take a 36-18 halftime lead.
That lead would get beefed up in period number three thanks to a 16-6 surge to 52-24. From that point on, it was the Lady Indians for whom the bell tolled upon as the Lady 'Cats took the 62-34 win.
The "Wonder-Twin Powers" activated again for another "twinning experience" with Emily Griffith (22 points) and Rachel Griffith (14 points) as the leading scorers.
Also turning in an outstanding performance as well were Macy Martin (12 points, 10 boards, 5 assists) and Kellie Ball (6 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists).
The Lady ‘Cats will be in action again on Saturday when they travel to Bluff City to take on Sullivan East.
Oliver Springs (62) Griffith 22, Griffith 14, Martin 12, Ball 6, Giles 4, Snellings 3, Morgan 1.
The road in District 4-A continues to get tougher to hoe for the Oliver Springs Bobcats as they dropped a tough 67-50 decision on Friday night.
The 'Cats started off with plenty of vim and vigor on an 8-2 run, but soon enough that early roar was reduced to a tame "meow" as the Indians raided the Bobcat defense fast and furiously to go on a 12-4 surge and take an eventual 18-16 lead at the end of the first period.
The Indians stretched out that lead to 38-28 at the half before increasing it to 52-36 at the end of period number three, and going into cruise control in the final stanza for the eventual 67-50 win.
Kane Simpson (12 points), John Simms (11 points) and Matt Henley (10 points) led the 'Cats in scoring.
The Bobcats will play again next Thursday when they take on Portland in the 2012 Jon Loden Classic at Midway.
Oliver Springs (50)- Simpson 12, Simms 11, Henley 10, Thompson 4, Murray 4, Noe 3, Moss 2, Miller 2, Poole 2.
