The Oliver Springs Lady Bobcats took on a pair of Class AAA teams over the weekend as Michelle Christopher’s squad split with William Blount and Seymour.
Friday’s game was played at William Blount and would see the Lady ‘Cats knock off the Lady Governors, 68-66 in overtime.
That extra period might have cost the Lady ‘Cats on Saturday as Oliver Springs let a seven-point fourth quarter lead slip away in dropping a 62-53 decision against the Lady Eagles.
The Lady ‘Cats will be on the road again on next Tuesday when they travel to Jellico for a District 4-A contest.
It was teacher vs. student Friday night as for Lady ‘Cat head coach Todd Wright lost to his former assistant and current Oliver Springs head coach Michelle Christopher.
The first quarter would see both teams playing well on offense as William Blount led 15-13 after eight minutes of play.
The second period would see the home team pick up the pace as they outscored Oliver Springs 22-14 in the frame to make the score 37-27 at halftime.
The Griffith twins, Rachel and Emily, led the way for Oliver Springs in the first half. Rachel had nine points in the first two periods of play while Emily added seven.
Oliver Springs started chipping away at William Blount’s lead in the third period. Emily Griffith, Alix Giles and Macy Martin scored four points each in the frame as the Lady ‘Cats pulled to within 47-42 with one period left to play.
The final period was dominated by Emily Griffith as she buried a three-pointer and scored 12 total points in the frame. Griffith’s scoring barrage allowed Oliver Springs to pull even at 60 at the end of regulation.
The extra session basically came down to free throws. William Blount went four of eight from the charity stripe compared to Oliver Springs going a perfect six for six.
Emily Griffith led Oliver Springs on the night with 23 points and five rebounds while Rachel Griffith added 18 points and nine assists. Kellie Ball (8 points, 7 assists), Martin (8 points, 8 rebounds) and Giles (6 points) also put up solid numbers in the win.
Amber Click (16 points) and Lindsay Roddy (13 points) led the way for the Lady Governors.

The Lady ‘Cats played well for three quarters Saturday, but fatigue might have set in down the stretch as Seymour picked up a nine-point victory.
Rachel Griffith (6 points) and Emily Griffith (4 points) started strong once again as Oliver Springs led 14-5 after eight minutes of play.
The second period would see Seymour settle down and cut a point off Oliver Springs lead. The Lady Eagles won the frame 14-13 to make the score 27-19 at halftime.
Martin (6 points) and Giles (4 points) combined for 10 of Oliver Springs’ 13 points in the second period.
The third quarter was high scoring and would see Seymour outscore Oliver Springs 19-18 to make the score 45-38 in favor of the Lady ‘Cats with one period left to play.
Emily Griffith paced Oliver Springs with seven points in the frame.
The fourth quarter proved to be a disaster for Oliver Springs. Seymour dominated the frame, 24-8, to erase the seven-point deficit and pick up the 62-53 victory.
