The Harriman Lady Blue Devils just might be peaking at the right time.
After starting the season with a 4-11 record, the Lady Devils have now won four in a row and six out of their last seven with the latest being a 58-42 victory over Berean Christian Thursday night in the opening round of the District 3-A Tournament.
Harriman put Thursday’s game away early as Jim Cordell’s squad raced out to a 12-2 lead after eight minutes of play.
Five players scored for Harriman in the opening period with Jasmine Fuqua’s four points leading the way.
Berean did play better in the second period as Berean scored 14 points in the period. Harriman, however, still won the period by three points to take a 29-16 lead at halftime.
Kiersten Douglass led the way for Harriman in the period with five points while Fuqua and Moriah Anderson scored four points each.
The third period was low scoring, but Harriman still added to their lead as they outscored Berean 8-7 in the period to take a 37-23 lead into the final eight minutes of play.
Nine players scored for Harriman in the final period as they outscored Berean 21-19 to put the finishing touches on their 16-point victory.
Eleven different players scored for Harriman on the evening with Fuqua tossing in 14 points to lead the way. Douglass and Anderson scored nine each.
Kerry Fillers (13 points) and Laura Moore (12 points) led the way for Berean.
With the victory, Harriman advanced to Saturday’s semifinals and a match-up with Rockwood. The Lady Devils and Lady Tigers split their two games during the regular season.
Harriman also secured a berth in the Region 2-A Tournament with the victory.
