The Lady Cherokees of Greenback came into Harriman Thursday night to battle it out against the Lady Blue Devils  in the District 3-A Tournament opener. Greenback would leave with their season over, however, as the Lady Blue Devils came out fast and never looked back, cruising to a 50-37 victory.

Harriman won the tip and got on the board first with a jumper from 12-feet out from Jadah Gallaher. The Blue Devils played good defense and really attacked the basket early on on the offensive end of the floor with Gallaher leadint the way.

Harriman went on an 8-2 run midway thought the first quarter, moving the ball well and using the short corner. The last four minutes of the quarter would see Harriman pushing the ball and crashing the glass. That sparked a 12-5 run led by Haley Goldston with eight of the 12 points.

Gallaher and Goldston closed one of their best quarters of the season on both sides of the ball with a combined 16 of the 20 points in the first quarter.

Harriman led 20-7 going into the second quarter and Laci Sells opened the period with two quick baskets to put Harriman up 24-7.

Midway through the second quarter, Greenback was able to hit some outside shots, but the Lady Cherokees could not get a stop on the defensive end of the floor, as the Lady Devils took a 34-16 lead at halftime.

Greenback opened the third with a 5-0 run, cutting the led to 13. Harriman was playing sloppy basketball in the third, but finally got on the board thanks to a floater by Gallaher.

Greenback was trying their best to get back in the game, playing better on defense throughout the quarter, but Harriman was able to hit some free throws late in the third to keep the led at 40-26.

Neither team played well to open the fourth quarter, but midway through the quarter, the Lady Devils started to pick it up on both ends of the floor and go on a 6-3 run putting them up 46-29.

Harriman got good guard play down the stretch by Gallaher and Goldston to hold off Greenback.

Harriman also hit a few free throws late in the fourth to close out the game with a 50-37 victory.

Goldston (13 points) and Gallaher (12 points, 5 rebounds) and Madison Duncan (11 points, 7 rebounds) all scored in double figures for Harriman on the evening.

With the victory, the Lady Devils played again Saturday night against Grace Christian.  Win or lose, Harriman will play again on Tuesday against Midway or Tellico Plains.

 Harriman (50) Goldston 13, Peddicord 2, Gallaher 12, Boyd 5, Duncan 11, Sells 7.
