It was a good day to be a Harriman Lady Blue Devil on Monday as David Currier’s squad improved to 8-0 on the season with an easy 15-0 victory over visiting Greenback.
Harriman’s Kayla Turner was the story Monday as the hard-throwing right-hander tossed a no-hitter with five walks and nine strikeouts past the Lady Cherokees. Turner also had a pretty good day with the bat as she finished the evening 2-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Harriman took the lead for good in the bottom of the first inning with one run.
Hayley Goins singled and scored the run with Turner singling to pick up the RBI. Lindsey Daugherty also singled in the inning for the Lady Devils.
Harriman broke the game open in the second inning as 11 players batted and seven crossed the plate.
Kayla Pressley, Kristen Kyker, Moriah Anderson, Goins, Daugherty, Turner and Kaci Byargeon all reached safely and scored in succession to start the inning. Pressley had two hits in the inning for the Lady Devils while Goins and Daugherty drove in runs.
Harriman put the game away with six more runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Anderson walked to start the inning and she would score on a single from Goins. After an out, Goins scored on a triple from Turner and Turner made it a round tripper after an error.
Ashley Stockton and Shonecia Patterson reached later in the inning and both scored on a Pressley double. Pressley eventually scored on a wild pitch to make the score 14-0 after three innings of play.
Harriman’s final run came in the fourth inning with Kiona Garner drawing a walk and eventually scoring on a dropped third strike.
Goins (3-3, 2 RBIs, 3 runs), Turner (2-2, 1 3B, 1 RBI, 2 runs) and Pressley (3-3, 1 2B, 2 RBIs, 1 run) all had multiple hits for Harriman on the day.
Harriman will look for win No. 9 on the season when they travel to Wartburg on Friday.
