The weather outside might have been a cool, breezy 45 degrees with rain, but that didn’t dampen the spirits of the Harriman Lady Blue Devils on Good Friday as they downed the Wartburg Lady Bulldogs 4-1 in a five-inning game at Flour Mill Flats.

Harriman P Haley Goldston was the story on Friday as she tossed a complete-game two-hitter with one walk and 11 strikeouts past the Lady Bulldogs.

Offensively, Harriman struggled in the first inning, but took the lead for good with a run in the bottom of the second.

Catcher Ivory Peddicord opened the inning with a walk and her courtesy runner, Jadah Gallaher, quickly stole second and third. Gallaher, however, was still there after a pair of infield outs, but the Lady Devils scored their run when Taylor Sells delivered a two-out single.

Harriman added three runs to their lead with a two-out rally.

Marilyn Franklin got things going with a two-out double and she scored on a single from Abigail Higgins. Higgins then scored when Peddicord reached on an error, and Goldston drove in the final run with an RBI single.

Wartburg scored their only run of the game in the top of the fourth inning. The run was unearned.

Harriman returns to action this weekend when they play in a tournament at Rockwood.
