The Harriman Lady Blue Devils picked up a pair of huge District 3-A wins earlier this week when they swept the season series from Rockwood.
Harriman needed a late rally on Monday to send the game to extra innings before downing the Lady Tigers, 5-4. No rally was needed on Tuesday as the Lady Devils never trailed in picking up a 7-1 victory.
Harriman was down to its last strike Monday when Chelsea Langley looped a single just over the outstretched arm of Lady Tiger 3B Kristen Isham. That single allowed Marilyn Franklin to score the tying run and send the game into extra innings.
Langley’s hit capped a three-run rally in the seventh inning.
Haley Goldston opened the inning with a single and scored on a single from Darian Boyd. Boyd scored on Franklin’s single, but it was Langley’s two-out, two-strike single that extended the game.
Harriman also scored the first run of the game when Goldston reached on an error and scored on a bunt from Boyd in the top of the first inning.
Rockwood took its first lead by scoring three runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Terez Templin and Raynah Gaskins opened the inning with singles then Chelsea Cheek walked to load the bases. Isham drove in the first run with a ground ball to short then Darian Green delivered a two-run single to give the Lady Tigers the 3-1 lead.
The Lady Tigers added to their lead with another run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Dakota Thompson and Gaskins singled in the inning with Thompson eventually scoring on an error to make the score 4-1.
Neither team scored in the eighth inning, but the Lady Devils scored the winning run in the top of the ninth.
A pitch hit Abigail Higgins to start the inning. She promptly stole second and scored on a single from Ivory Peddicord.
Templin did reach safely for the Lady Tigers in the bottom of the inning, but she would be erased in a double play to end the game.
Peddicord (3-5, 1 RBI) was the leading hitter for Harriman on the day while Gaskins (3-4, 1 run) and Templin (2-4, 1 run) had multiple hits for Rockwood.
Goldston picked up the win in the circle for the Lady Devils.
No late rally was needed on Tuesday, as the Lady Devils took advantage of 10 walks in picking up a 7-1 victory.
Two of those walks came in the bottom of the third inning as Taylor Sells and Haley Goldston each walked before scoring on a single from Boyd. Higgins later added a sacrifice fly to give the Lady Devils a 3-0 lead.
Harriman made it 5-0 by adding single runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
Kaitlin Abston reached on an error and scored in the fourth inning while Franklin walked and scored in the fifth inning. Katie Hall and Sells picked up the RBIs.
Harriman’s final two runs came in the sixth inning.
Goldston walked and scored the first run on a double from Higgins. Higgins scored on a passed ball to make the final score 7-1.
Rockwood scored its run in the top of the sixth inning when Cheek singled and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Isham.
Higgins (2-4, 2 2Bs, 2 RBIs, 1 run) was the leader for Harriman’s offense while Goldston picked up another pitching victory.
