It may have been a sluggish start, but the Kingston Lady Jackets soccer team swarmed past the Cumberland County Lady Jets Tuesday evening en route to a 4-0 win.
“I thought we played a lot better tonight,” Kingston head coach Elik Pickell said. “We played well, passed the ball well, finished well, and attacked the ball well. Couldn't have asked for a better effort tonight.”
Kingston had a couple of early opportunities to score turned away, but at the 24-minute mark, Skotti Bullington bulled a 25-yard kick past the Lady Jets goalie to take the early 1-0 lead. Seven minutes later, Emily Ostrander doubled the Kingston lead to 2-0 with a Brooke Bales assist.
At the 37-minute mark, Brooke Bales scored for the Lady Jackets on a Kelly Allen assist to push the lead to 3-0 at halftime.
The rest of the game, Kingston played a soccer variation of prevent defense before adding an insurance goal from Bales on a Bullington assist to make the final score 4-0.
Bales (2 goals, 1 assist), Bullington (1 goal, 1 assist), and Emily Ostrander (1 goal) led the Lady Jackets in scoring with Erica Ostrander (7 saves) having a strong shutout win in goal for Kingston.
The Lady Jackets will be in action again on Monday when they travel to Grace Christian. Kingston hosts Scott on Tuesday.
