The Kingston Lady Yellow Jackets picked up a pair of wins earlier this week as Ronnie Ladd’s squad knocked off Hardin Valley Academy Monday, 11-4, and they followed that on Wednesday with an 8-5 victory over Christian Academy of Knoxville (CAK).

Kingston vs. Hardin Valley

Kingston’s lone senior, Anna Hamilton, celebrated Senior Night Monday with a big 11-4 victory over Hardin Valley.

Kingston didn’t have much trouble with the Lady Hawks as they jumped out to a 9-1 lead after three innings of play and cruised from there.

Kingston scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning as Sydney Spurgeon, Lindsey Stickrod, T.J. Wicks and Makisha Fuller all crossed the plate in the frame.

Morgan Snow, Alex Aycock and Rachel Coffey also had hits for the Lady Jackets in the opening inning.

Kingston put the game away with five runs in the bottom of the third inning to make the score 9-1.

Fuller, Aycock, Coffey, Spurgeon and Mica Gaines scored the runs in the frame. Gaines delivered the big blow of the inning with a three-run home run.

Kingston’s final two runs came in the bottom of the fifth inning as Spurgeon scored on a passed ball while Gaines scored when Snow reached on an error.

Gaines picked up the victory, tossing a complete-game eight-hitter with one walk and five strikeouts.

Spurgeon (3-4, 2 RBIs, 3 runs), Gaines (2-3, HR, 3 RBIs, 2 runs), Stickrod (3-5, 2B, 1 RBI, 1 run) and Aycock (2-4, 1 run) all had multiple hits on the day for Kingston.

Kingston vs. CAK

Wednesday’s victory was a lot tougher as the Lady Jackets had to battle back from a 4-0 deficit in the final three innings to pick up the victory.

Trailing 4-0 entering the fifth inning, Kingston erupted for five runs in the top of the fifth.

Ariel Parsons singled to start the inning, but she was erased on a fielder’s choice from Katherine Butler. Hamilton followed with a walk then Spurgeon reached safely on a fielder’s choice to load the bases.

Gaines followed with an RBI walk, but the big hit came next when Stickrod ripped a three-run double. Stickrod was thrown out at third on the play, but Kingston wasn’t done scoring as Snow singled and eventually scored on a single from Fuller.

CAK tied the game with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the Lady Jackets would score the game winning runs in the top of the sixth.

Butler doubled to start the inning and she was joined on base when a pitch hit Spurgeon with one out. Gaines followed with a two-run double then Snow knocked in a run with a two-out single to give the Lady Jackets the three-run victory.

Stickrod (2-4, 3 RBIs), Snow (2-4, 2B, 1 RBI, 1 run) and Parsons (2-3)  had multiple hits on the day for Kingston.

Gaines picked up the victory after firing a complete-game seven-hitter with one walk and nine strikeouts.
