The Kingston Lady Jackets ran into a ferocious buzz saw in the Christian Academy of Knoxville Lady Warriors, dropping a 5-0 decision in the district championship game. “CAK was better this time than they were the first time we played them,” said Kingston head coach Greg Bowman. “We tried to do some different things and I think we held our own against a really good team.”
It took 11 minutes for the Lady Warriors to strike first when Kaycee Campbell scored on a Paige Hoffman assist to make the score 1-0. At the 28-minute mark, Kiah Allen added another goal to the Lady Warriors lead on a Hoffman assist to make the score 2-0. Campbell scored her second goal six minutes later on yet another Hoffman assist to make the halftime score 3-0.
Fourteen minutes into the second half, Allen scored her second goal unassisted to make the score 4-0. Three minutes later, Campbell got the hat trick on an Allen assist to make the eventual final score 5-0.
Campbell (3 goals) and Kiah Allen (2 goals, 1 assist) were the leading scorers for the Lady Warriors with Sally Jernigan (6 saves) leading the goal-keeping efforts of the Lady Warriors.
CAK owned a 40-8 advantage in shots on goal.
Kingston was led in goal by Michaela Grubb's 19 saves. Next up for the Lady Jackets following their runner-up district finish is a trip to either Pigeon Forge or Berean Christian School.
“I'm glad we're finally healthy,” said Bowman said. “Amanda Riggs and Christina Neal were both banged up going into this game and everything seems to be okay with them.”
