Lady Jackets take two from Scott

The Kingston Lady Yellow Jackets picked up a pair of District 4-AA wins Wednesday evening by knocking off Scott in a doubleheader played at Southwest Point.

The first game of the day was close with Kingston pulling out a 5-4 victory. The Lady Jackets breathed a little easier in the final game of the evening, winning by a final score of 10-3.

Game 1

Despite trailing 4-0 early on, the Lady Jackets rallied for a 5-4 win in game one of their doubleheader on Wednesday. 

The Lady Highlanders started strong with a two-run double and a two-run single to take the early 4-0 lead that left the Lady Jackets reeling.

After leaving a runner on third in the bottom of the first, the Lady Jackets shut down Scott in the second inning before cutting the deficit in half to 4-2 when both Aycock sisters, Alex and Sam, stole home.

Kingston took the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the third inning.

A Rachel Coffey fielder's choice RBI and a two-run double by Sam Aycock gave the Lady Jackets the 5-4 lead. 

After executing back-to-back three-up and three-down innings, the Lady Jackets escaped with the 5-4 win.

Briley Garrett (2-3, 1 2B) and Sam Aycock (2-2, 2 RBI) led the Lady Jackets at the plate with Sam Aycock (CG, 6 Ks, 1 walk, 4 hits) getting credit for the win.

Game 2

The second game went better for the Lady Jackets as they took the 10-3 win. 

After the Lady Highlanders took the early 1-0 lead on a run that came home on an error, Kingston responded when Briley Garrett stole home followed by a Kat Butler RBI single. Two more runs  came home later in the inning on a fielding error from a Sam Aycock hit to make the score 4-1. 

Kingston scored four more runs in the second inning.

 Coffey had a three-run hit from a fielding error then Alex Aycock added an RBI single to take the 8-1 lead. 

Scott threatened in the third inning, but they left the bases loaded then Kingston’s Makenzie Spurgeon drove in a run with a double to make the score 9-1.

Two runs came in for Scott in the top of the fourth inning on a fielding miscue to make the lead 9-3 before Taryn Underwood brought home the final run for the Lady Jackets to make the score 10-3.

Spurgeon (3-3, 1 2B, 1 3B, 1 RBI) and Butler (3-3, 1 RBI) were the leading hitters as Garrett (CG, 5 Ks, 2 hits, 0 ER) got the win for Kingston.
