The Rockwood Lady Tigers held off the rain and defeated Harriman Monday at Rockwood’s Mike “Brillo” Miller Sports Complex by a final margin of 13-6.

Monday’s game started with both teams putting a pair of runs on the board in the first inning.

Harriman’s runs came thanks to a two-run single off the bat of Lindsey Higgins. Higgins’ hit drove in Dee Boyd and Haylee Goins. Boyd singled and Goins reached on an error earlier in the inning.

Lexi Monroe started Rockwood’s rally with a one-out single then Kelsey Brackett moved her to third with a double. Shaley Grant followed with an RBI ground out then Hayley Turpin tied the score at 2-2 with a double.

The score remained 2-2 until Rockwood put two runs on the board in the bottom of the third inning.

Turpin started the rally with a two-out single then Haley Yelton was hit by a pitch. After a walk to Chelsea Cheek loaded the bases, a pitch hit Olivia Duncan to drive in one run then Savannah Brackett walked to make the score 4-2.

Rockwood started to pull away with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Monroe tripled to start the inning then Kelsey Brackett walked. Grant and Turpin followed with back-to-back doubles that made the score 7-2 then Duncan squeezed home the final run with a bunt to make the score 8-2.

Harriman sliced three runs off the lead in the top of the fifth inning.

Tymber Bodine and Boyd walked to start things off then Goins drove in the first run with a double. Higgins followed with a two-run single that cut the gap to 8-5.

Rockwood, however, got two of those runs back in the bottom of the inning thanks to a two-run bomb off the bat of Grant. Vida Harp was on board for Grant’s blast as the Lady Tigers took a 10-5 lead.

Harriman scored again to make the score 10-6 in the top of the sixth inning.

Nicole Clark reached on an error and scored the when on a ground ball from Bodine.

Rockwood closed the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the inning.

Yelton and Duncan singled to start the inning, but most of Rockwood’s damage came with two outs as Harp reached on an error to drive in a run then Monroe drove in two runs with a single to make the score 13-6.

Monroe (3-4, 1 3B, 2 RBIs, 2 runs), Grant (2-4, 1 2B, 1 HR, 4 RBIs, 2 runs) and Turpin (3-4, 2 2B, 2 RBIs, 2 runs) had multiple hits for the Lady Tigers on the day.
