SUNBRIGHT — Kathryn Johnson earned her first signature win with a 55-33 victory over the Greenback Lady Cherokees last Tuesday.

The rookie coach at Sunbright rallied her team from a first quarter deficit to roll up the 22-point home win.

“It was a good start to the season. It was a good win,” said Johnson, who got her first career win.

“Our defensive intensity was great. Our plan was at the beginning of the game to come out and be really intense and pressure the ball.”

Sunbright junior Jessika Dyer fired in a career-high 25 points, including 7 of 10 at the charity stripe, to help her team to the huge win.

Greenback led 10-8 after one quarter, but Sunbright came back to take a 25-22 lead at half-time.

Dyer caught fire in the third quarter and scored 15 points to lead the Lady Tigers to a 46-28 advantage heading into the final period.

SHS used a 9-5 edge in the fourth quarter to earn the 55-33 win.

“We set a lot of goals for that game and I have to say we pretty much accomplished all of them,” said Johnson.

Sunbright (1-0) was led by the scoring trio of Jessika Dyer (25 points), Sunny Lavender (9 points) and Angelliccaa Williams (8 points).

LADY TIGERS (55): Jessika Dyer 25, Sunny Lavender 9, Angelliccaa Williams 8, Robbiccaa Williams 5, Tiffany Eldridge 4, Ashley Honeycutt 2 and Miranda Scott 2. Three-pointers (0)—None.
