The District 3-A Softball Tournament came to a close Thursday night at Tellico Plains.

Two Roane County teams, Harriman and Midway, met in the loser’s bracket elimination game. Midway lived to fight another day with a 6-3 win over Harriman. The victory secured Midway a berth in next week’s Region 2-A Tournament.

The Lady Waves then turned around and played Grace Christian for the championship, but suffered a 10-0 loss.

Harriman’s season came to an end with the loss to Midway. The Lady Devils ended with an 11-16 record.

Midway will play another Roane County team, Oliver Springs, Monday at Oliver Springs in the first round of the region tourney.

Grace will host Coalfield in the other region 2A game Monday.

Harriman vs. Midway

Both Harriman and Midway seemed to be determined to end a week long hitting slump and both teams did hit the ball better than they had on the previous two days of the tourney.

The Lady Waves did have to shuffle their lineup somewhat after starting shortstop Abby Bertram was injured in Wednesday’s game against Grace. Jayde Rose moved to shortstop while Kaylee Burton played third base.

Harriman finished with three runs on eight hits, but they did commit four errors. Midway pounded out nine hits to score six runs. They had a pair of errors.

Midway did get an early hit when Halie Wiley got a bunt single to begin the bottom of the first inning.

After two scoreless innings, Midway struck first with a run in the bottom of the third inning. Burton singled to start the inning and scored on a two-out single from Kallie Sohm.

Midway would build the lead to 5-0 with two runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

In the fourth, Alisa Barger singled to begin the inning then Shade Narramore reached on an error. After an out, Rose ripped a pitch past third base and both runs scored on the error at third.

In the fifth, Alex Richardson doubled to start the inning. After an out, Raygn Hall blasted a long home run to center field.

Hall started the game in the circle, but began to tire in the late innings and Harriman picked up a run in the sixth. Haley Goldston singled to begin the sixth. After an out, Abby Higgins and Ivory Peddicord singled back-to-back with Peddicord’s hit driving in Goldston.

Midway matched Harriman with a run in the bottom of the sixth to go up 6-1. Sohm doubled and scored the run on a double from Richardson.

Harriman rallied in the seventh scoring two more runs, but Midway held on. Marilyn Franklin singled to start the inning. Franklin moved to second on an error. After an out, Jadah Gallaher singled to drive in Franklin. After the second out, Dee Boyd doubled to push in Gallaher.

Hall got the last out to on the next batter to send Midway to the championship. Hall finished the game allowing three runs on eight hits and no walks. She struck out seven. One of the runs was unearned.

Goldston pitched six innings for the Lady Devils and gave up six runs on nine hits and no walks. She had four strikeouts.

The four Harriman errors left Goldston with four earned runs.

Midway vs. Grace Christian

The championship was anti-climatic. Grace led 8-0 at the end of the third inning and scored the run rule runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.

Midway collected only two hits in the game both coming in the second inning as Christina Stansbury and Shade Narramore both had hits in the second inning.

Roane County did put five players on the all-tourney team. Goldston and Peddicord made it for Harriman while Richardson, Sohm and Stansbury were selected from Midway.
