The 2013-14 season ended Friday night for the Midway Lady Waves as John Leffew’s squad came up on the short end of a 58-38 decision against Grace Christian Academy in the opening round of the District 3-A Tournament.
The Lady Rams grabbed the lead early and never looked back in advancing to the tournament semifinals.
Grace Christian came out firing on offense and led 16-8 after one period of play.
The Lady Rams scored just 12 points in the second period, but their defense was still just as strong. Midway scored seven points in the second period and trailed 28-15 at halftime.
Pretty much any chance at a Lady Wave comeback died in the third period. The Lady Rams outscored Midway 12-9 in the third period to take a 16-point lead, 40-24, into the final period of play.
Midway finally reached double digits in the final period, scoring 14 points, but Grace Christian matched that total and added four more in taking home the 20-point victory.
Abby Bertram led the Lady Waves in defeat with 10 points while Lexi Taylor and Juilee Kilby followed close behind with nine each. Taylor and Kilby each hit two 3-pointers.
Midway ends its season with an 8-16 record.
Midway (38) Taylor 9, West 3, Bertram 10, Ja. Kilby 2, Ju. Kilby 9, Lewis 4, Richardson 1.
