The Grace Christian Academy Lady Rams gave the girls from "South of the River" all they could handle, but in the end it was the Midway Lady Waves coming out with a hard-fought 4-2 triumph on the strength of a three-run fifth inning.
The Lady Rams had the bases juiced in the top of the first inning, but the Lady Waves averted disaster with a double play at first and at home plate to keep the Lady Rams scoreless.
In the bottom of the inning, the Lady Waves got on the board with a Paige Moree RBI off of an error to make the score 1-0.
Grace Christian tied the game in the top of the second inning with a Shelby Lendermann RBI single.
Midway had an opportunity to get on the board in the bottom of the third inning, but got shutout on a double play from first to home.
Things were looking pretty dicey for the South of the River contingent until the bottom of the fifth inning when Alex Richardson brought in an RBI on a fielder's choice and Taylr Hall had a two-run double to stretch the lead to 4-1.
The Lady Rams had the tying run at the plate in the top of the sixth, but couldn't convert. After the Lady Waves had another scoreless inning, the Lady Rams got one more shot in the top of the seventh inning. Grace Christian would get in an RBI off of an error but even with the go-ahead run at the plate, the Lady Waves blanked them the rest of the way for the 4-2 win.
Midway was led at the plate by Danielle Borum (2-3, 1 3B) and on the mound by Alex Richardson (CG, 4 Ks, 3 BBs, 8 hits, 1 ER).
Grace was led in defeat by Tori Hutchinson (3-4) and Bethany Hunt (CG, 3 Ks, 1 W, 6 hits, 3 ER) was tallied with the loss.
Midway returns to action Monday when the Lady Waves travel to Tellico Plains to take on the Lady Bears in another District 3-A contest.
