Five days after putting up 17 runs against Grace Christian Academy in the District 3-A championship game, the bats of the Midway Lady Green Waves stayed hot Monday evening as Midway blasted Oneida, 12-2, in the opening round of the Region 2-A Tournament at Midway.
Midway started strong Tuesday as Alex Richardson put the Lady Waves on top with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning. Taylor Narramore had singled just before Richardson’s bomb.
Oneida did make things interesting in the top of the third inning as the Lady Indians tied the game with a pair of runs, but Midway answered with five runs in the bottom of the frame to take the lead for good.
Halie Wiley opened the inning with a single, but she was erased when Danielle Borum reached on a fielder’s choice. Taylor Narramore followed with a single then Richardson and Paige Moree connected on back-to-back doubles as Midway started to pull away.
After an error on the Lady Indian defense, Hali Morris ripped Midway’s third double of the inning to make the score 7-2.
Midway added three more runs in the fourth inning to make the score 10-2.
Borum started the scoring with a solo home run then Narramore doubled before Richardson and Taylr Hall reached on errors to give the Lady Waves the eight-run lead.
Midway ended the game early with a pair of runs in the fifth inning. Wiley and Borum scored he runs on a game-ending single from Narramore.
Narramore (4-4, 2B, 3 RBIs, 3 runs) and Richardson (2-3, 2B, HR, 4 RBIs, 3 runs) had multiple hits on the day while Richardson picked up the win after firing a complete-game three-hitter with four strikeouts past the Lady Indians.
With the victory, Midway advances to Wednesday’s Region 2-A championship game at Coalfield. This will be the third straight season the Lady Waves and Lady Jackets have met for the region title with Coalfield winning in 2009 and Midway winning last season.
