The Midway Lady Green Waves secured a berth in next week's Region 2-A Tournament Tuesday night by defeating Rockwood 10-5 in the third round of the District 3-A Tournament played at Midway.

Tuesday's game was a rubber game of sorts between the two rivals as they had split their regular season series with both teams winning at home.

Tuesday's game opened with a ton of offense as the Lady Tigers and Lady Waves combined for nine runs in the first inning.

Rockwood scored five of those runs in the top of the first inning.

Chelsea Cheek and Lexi Monroe each reached on errors to start the game then Kelsey Brackett walked. After an out, Haley Turpin doubled then Reanna Henderson and Becca Farmer had back-to-back two-out singles to give the Lady Tigers an early 5-0 lead.

Midway answered in a hurry as they scored four runs in the bottom of the frame.

Danielle Borum got things started with a one-out single and that was followed by a double from Taylor Narramore. After the second out was recorded, Paige Moree doubled, Taylr Hall walked and Christina Stansbury doubled to cut Rockwood's lead to 5-4.

Midway took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the second inning.

Borum, Narramore and Alex Richardson scored the runs while Haley Patterson and Moree had hits in the frame.

Midway made it 9-5 with two runs in the fourth inning. Halie Wiley tripled and scored the first run of the frame while Richardson hit a two-out solo homer for the final run in the inning.

Midway's final run came in the bottom of the fifth inning. Patterson singled and scored the run on a single by Wiley.

After the big first inning, Rockwood had just four base runners. Turpin and Henderson both had hits in the third inning, Cheek singled in the fourth while Monroe drew a walk in the top of the seventh.

Turpin (2-3, 2 2B, 1 run) and Henderson (2-3, 1 run) had multiple hits for the Lady Tigers while Wiley (2-4, 3B, 1 run), Moree (4-4, 2 2B, 1 run) and Patterson (2-3, 1 run) had multiple hits for the Lady Waves.

Richardson picked up the victory for the Lady Waves.

Despite the loss, Rockwood stayed alive in the tournament as the Lady Tigers dropped into the loser's bracket and a Wednesday contest with Grace Christian Academy.
