The Midway Middle School Lady Waves picked up an improbable come-from-behind 40-38 overtime win that came courtesy of an Abby Bertram steal and a Jessie Lewis basket in the paint with two seconds left, capsizing the post-season hopes of the Harriman Middle School Lady Blue Devils in the opening round of the Area 4 AA Tournament at Harriman.
Harriman entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed got out to an early 12-6 lead at the end of the first period and held on at intermission for a 22-16 lead at halftime. The lead was cut to 30-26 after the third period and No. 6 Midway furiously rallied in the final period to tie the game at 35-35, sending it into overtime.
The game was still tied with 7.2 left in when Bertram intercepted the ball then she dished it to Lewis who scored in the paint to drown out the hopes of victory for the Lady Devils with a 40-38 win, satisfying the "South Of the River" contingent in attendance.
Midway overcame a 58-42 deficit on the boards with a 15-11 tilt in team steals.

In what can aptly be described as a rough-and-tumble game of hardwood action, the Rockwood Middle School Lady Tigers fought valiantly to topple the Lenoir City Middle School Lady Panthers, but in the end fell short by a 30-28 margin.
Lenoir City took an early 7-5 lead at the end of the first period and doubled that leading margin to 16-12 at halftime. The Lady Panthers stretched that lead to 23-17 after three periods of play, but in the final period, the Lady Tigers battled back ferociously to go on an 11-3 tilt to take the lead at one point.
However, the Lady Panthers scored the final four points of the game to take a 30-28 win.
Lenoir City had a 31-24 edge on the boards and overcame a 9-5 deficit in team steals.
