Land Bank to be League luncheon topic

Charlie Jernigan, chairman of the Oak Ridge Land Bank Corp. board of directors, will be the guest speaker at Oak Ridge League of Women Voters’ upcoming Lunch With the League.

The meeting starts at noon May 20 in Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church at 1500 Oak Ridge Turnpike.

No reservations are necessary. Box lunches will be available for $8 on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 11:30 a.m., or those attending may bring their own meal. Coffee and tea are provided.

The Oak Ridge Land Bank Corp. is a unique governmental organization in Tennessee that grew from the need to address the problem of blighted housing in Oak Ridge.

The concept of a land bank was introduced in 2011 as part of the “Not in Our City” plan, and Oak Ridge City Council approved it by ordinance in September 2013.

The Land Bank Corp. will work to support economic revitalization through returning vacant, abandoned and tax-delinquent properties to productive use.

Jernigan will discuss the goals of the Land Bank Corp. and actions in place to achieve these goals.

Oak Ridge League of Women Voters is a non-partisan organization that encourages informed and active participation in government and works to increase understanding of public policy through unbiased studies of public issues.

Membership is open to both men and women.
